Rajasthan is big — bigger than many European countries — and the most common mistake first-time visitors make is trying to see everything in a week. The secret is to pick a loop that balances royal cities, one natural experience and enough downtime to actually enjoy it.
Day 1–2: Jaipur, the Pink City
Start in Jaipur. It has excellent flight and train connections and eases you gently into Rajasthan.
- Morning: Amber Fort before the crowds, followed by a photo stop at Jal Mahal.
- Afternoon: City Palace and Jantar Mantar, then Hawa Mahal from the café opposite.
- Evening: Sunset at Nahargarh Fort, dinner in the old city.
Use your second day for bazaars — Johari for jewellery, Bapu Bazaar for textiles — and perhaps a block-printing workshop in Sanganer.
Day 3: Drive to Jodhpur
The drive takes around 6 hours. Break the journey with lunch at a highway dhaba and arrive in time to wander the Clock Tower market at dusk.
Day 4: Mehrangarh and the Blue City
Mehrangarh Fort is best explored in the morning light. Afterwards, join a guided walk through the blue lanes of Brahmpuri and try Jodhpur’s famous mirchi vada.
Day 5: Via Ranakpur to Udaipur
This is one of India’s most beautiful drives. Stop at the Ranakpur Jain Temple — its 1,444 carved marble pillars are unforgettable — and reach Udaipur by evening.
Day 6: Udaipur, the City of Lakes
Spend the day at the City Palace, Jagdish Temple and Saheliyon-ki-Bari. End with a sunset boat ride on Lake Pichola.
Day 7: Departure
Fly out of Udaipur, or add a day trip to Nathdwara or Chittorgarh if you have time.
Our planning tips
- Travel between October and March for pleasant weather.
- Keep drives under 6–7 hours a day.
- Hire one driver for the entire trip — a good driver becomes your guide, fixer and friend.
